Exchange expands its offerings of week-long intensives this July at its studios
in
National Teen Institute – Move It,
Mean It: A Digital Dance Intensive
On YouTube,
iPods, and HDTV, digital media offers new platforms
for dance. Meanwhile, digital technologies are redefining choreography and
revolutionizing how we think about where “final” performances can happen.
Whether you see yourself in front of the camera or behind it, this intensive
will offer a hands-on, bodies-on, brains-on opportunity to make a new kind of
art with contemporary media. The institute culminates in a public screening, an
online webcast, and a take-home DVD.
Track
One: MOVEMENT INTENSIVE July
7 - 11 $350
Who:
Young dance and theater artists (age 13-19) interested in performance
and choreography for digital media.
What:
Through daily dance technique and composition classes, students will
discover, develop, and deepen their physical capacities and personal
creativity. Under the mentorship of professional
artists, dancers will collaborate with young digital artists to create a new
dance for video.-studio and on-location work will culminate in a public
screening of the digital dances.

Two: DIGITAL ART INTENSIVE July
5 - 11 $400
Who:
Young artists (age 13-19) interested in digital art making including
sound and video design. Some experience required. Inquire at 301-270-6700 x 24.
What:
At this immersion into new digital art making, students will hone
their shooting and editing skills, collaborating with performing artists to
create a new dance for video inspired by real-world topics. The week culminates
in a public screening and web presentation.
All Abilities Movement Intensive
Fresh possibilities emerge when people of
different ages, shapes, and abilities dance together. The expressive range of
the art form expands and every dancer discovers new capacities. The twin tracks
of this institute cover the personal, ensemble, and community implications of all
abilities collaboration.
Track
One: DANCING HUMAN July
13 - 17 $400
Who:
Participants of all abilities: on foot or wheels, older or younger,
returning to dance or new to dance, as well as established dancers who know
there’s more to moving than how high you can get your leg.
What:
Students learn Dance Exchange tools and processes, with a special
focus on what it means to adapt movement to your body and capacities.
Professional choreographers, dancers, and all who come to move in their unique
ways witness the nuance and dynamism that comes from an unexpected range of
movement vocabulary.

Two: BEYOND THE STUDIO WALLS July
13 - 17 $400
Who:
Dance facilitators interested in working within diverse communities
to develop innovative dances at specific sites.
What:
Participants work alongside Dance Exchange choreographers, dancers
and those new to movement at sites such as senior residences, health care
facilities, and community centers. Using Dance Exchange tools and techniques,
students learn the particular opportunities and creative challenges of adapting
all abilities to specific sites.
Crafting Dances
From concept to performance, this institute
engages dance artists as creators, collaborators, and interpreters. In this unique opportunity, dancers in the Immersion
track work with choreographers in the New Tools track to develop, rehearse, and
perform original works in

One: DANCE EXCHANGE IMMERSION July
18 - 27 $600
Who: Professional and pre-professional
dance artists age 20 +
What:
Participants experience a week of dancing and the creation of new
work alongside core artists from Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and choreographers
participating in the New Tools/Your Dance track. Activities
include technique classes, movement making, choreography crafting, and practice
in leadership and followership, all adding up to a
comprehensive experience of the tools, techniques and philosophy of Liz Lerman
Dance Exchange.

Two: NEW TOOLS/YOUR DANCE July
18 - 27 $600
Who:
Choreographers. Registration limited. Application required.
What:
A select group of choreographers will have the opportunity to combine
personal vision with Dance Exchange tools to create new work that will be
performed both in site-specific and stage settings. Participants will receive
one-on-one mentorship, get an intensive experience in collaboration, develop
their personal voices, and create a new work for public performance at the
