5 Elements: A Youth Hip Hop Experience at Dance Exchange

What is DX Summer Camp?
This year’s DX Summer Camp is titled, 5 Elements: A Youth Hip Hop Experience at Dance Exchange. This week-long dance and movement camp for youth ages 8-12 uses Dance Exchange creative tools and practices to explore Hip Hop and Street Dance. Led by Dance Exchange artist Maggie Waller and special guests.
DX Summer Camp Daily Schedule
9:00am - 12:00pm | Morning movement and choreography workshop: Youth will explore Hip Hop and Street Dance basics
12:00pm - 1:00pm | Lunch and quiet time: Youth should bring their own lunches and are also invited to bring their own books or quiet time activity. Dance Exchange will also supply some books and activities.
1:00pm - 4:00pm | Afternoon movement: Youth will focus on one of the 5 Elements of Hip Hop and an exploration of each element in relation to creative process, dancemaking, and the collaborative building of a final performance elements.
What can young movers expect?
Gathering and grounding in the space and in the day’s activities
Getting moving with a physical warm up or game that can be adapted to all bodies and abilities
Learning and exploring Hip Hop and Street Dance basics
Exploring the 5 Elements of Hip Hop in relation to creative process, dancemaking, and the collaborative building of a final performance element
Sharing our dances and practicing our skills for being an audience member and giving feedback
What is the tuition?
$550 tuition for camp (M-F and a Saturday performance)
Scholarship Application Available - 50% tuition decrease

Refund Policy
If you cancel your registration before or on the registration Deadline, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your registration after the registration Deadline but before the first class, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds are given after the first class of the session.

Maggie Waller
Maggie Waller is a dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Heavily involved in the local hip hop community, she pulls from various dance forms, such as Waacking, House, Locking, Breaking, Hip Hop, Postmodern Contemporary, and Tap in her performance work, choreography, and freestyle/battle practice.
