2021 DX Summer Institute

This Institute has concluded. Explore upcoming Institutes.

Now more than ever, Dance Exchange recognizes the power and potential of artmaking. Join us for the VIRTUAL 2021 Dance Exchange OAC Summer Institute to explore the ways that dance and dancemaking can help us navigate a rapidly changing world. As part of our Organizing with Artists for Change Initiative (OAC), Dance Exchange Institutes embrace process and performance, dialogue and dancemaking, and the role of artists as changemakers.

The 2021 Dance Exchange OAC Summer Institute will include an online Module 1 as well as an optional hybrid Module 2. Those in Maryland and surrounding areas have the opportunity to join an in-person outdoor session at Red Wiggler Farm in Germantown, Maryland. Those joining Module 2 remotely will participate in a online session with Partnering Artists Jamē McCray and Christina Catanese.

Registration Fee:

$100 for Module 1
$160 for Modules 1 and 2

If this is your first Institute with Dance Exchange, you must participate in Module 1 in order to participate in Module 2. If you have participated in an Institute before, you have the option participate in Module 2 only for $60.

Limited scholarships are available. We recognize this is a challenging financial time for those in the arts and related fields. If price is a barrier to your participation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Module 1 (online, July 9-11, 2021)

During Module 1, you’ll join movers, makers, artists, and leaders from communities near and far to explore Dance Exchange’s four questions: who gets to dance, where dance happens, what dance is about, and why dance matters. This online Institute will include live online movement classes (adapted for our home spaces), workshops that delve into Dance Exchange creative tools and practices, and independent creative assignments for participants to explore on their own time.

Facilitation of Module 1 will rotate each day to include a range of voices and perspectives from the Dance Exchange network. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and experience Dance Exchange projects Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion and Future Fields.
