Position Overview

Dance Exchange is seeking a dynamic and organized Assistant Teaching Artist and Program Coordinator to support the successful delivery of its Moving Field Guide program as part of  Breakthrough Montessori’s Monday Intersession program. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is passionate about environmental learning, movement-based education, and community-centered programming.

This hybrid teaching and administrative position will work closely with lead artist Cassie Meador and Creative Producer Stephen Clapp to plan, facilitate, and document high-quality outdoor learning experiences that integrate movement, storytelling, and environmental literacy.

About Moving Field Guide 

Moving Field Guide (MFG) is a site-responsive learning model that integrates movement, observation, and storytelling to enrich participants' connections with the natural world and cultivate environmental stewardship. This program utilizes immersive outdoor experiences to promote environmental literacy, encourage creative expression, and nurture a sense of stewardship for our local environments. MFG has been implemented in partnership with organizations such as the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Girl Scouts of America, and Prince George’s County Public Schools.

Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Logistics

  • Coordinate program material needs, printing weekly lesson plans, and weekly prep

  • Set up and break down of materials and space each Monday

  • Manage student check-in and check-out with families

  • Coordinate snack set-up and student transitions

  • Track and submit receipts and material needs to the Creative Producer

  • Coordinate mid-year and end-of-year student/parent surveys

  • Facilitate and support clear communication to parents, including weekly program updates and invitations

  • Coordinate MFG content for DX eblasts, Breakthrough newsletters, and internal communications

Teaching & Facilitation

  • Collaborate weekly with the lead teaching artist to co-develop session plans. This includes one one-hour planning session each week to be scheduled outside of the Monday program hours.  

  • Support the lead artist in facilitating movement-based, environmentally focused learning

  • Participate in co-facilitation and lead activities as appropriate

  • Reflect weekly on student needs, interests, and experience to inform future sessions

Documentation

  • Document sessions through video, photo, and student/parent testimonials 

  • Organize and maintain materials for internal and external storytelling about the program

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in educational, artistic, or outdoor settings

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Interest or experience in environmental education, movement, or arts integration

  • Comfort with facilitating or supporting movement-based activities

  • Ability to work collaboratively and responsively within a team

  • Experience with basic tech tools (Google Docs, email, digital documentation)

  • Spanish language skills a plus

  • Background check required (Dance Exchange to cover the cost of the background check)

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • Weekly time commitment will include in-person programming on Mondays from ~12:30–4:30pm and additional hours for planning, coordination, and communication.

  • Start date: Week of September 8, 2025

  • This is a paid part-time position with a flat project rate of $5,400, commensurate with experience, payable on the first of each month for sessions planned and facilitated during the previous month.
