Title: Part-Time Digital Communications Contractor

Timeline: February 15, 2023 - June 30, 2023 with possibility to extend

Application Deadline: January 17, 2023 or until filled

Hours per week/Schedule: This contract role is only 7 hours per week. Schedule can be flexible, but candidates should have some availability between 9am - 6pm ET spread out throughout the week. 

Example availability might look like: 

Monday: 9-11am
Tuesday: 2-5pm
Thursday: 12-2pm

or

Tuesday: 9-10:30 am
Wednesday: 9-11am
Thursday: 9-10:30am
Friday: 9-11am 

Hourly Rate: $20/hour. This is a contract position, not a salaried role. Hours will be tracked and invoiced using organizational software. Hours should not exceed 7 hours per week without prior approval. 

Place of Work: Remote within the DC-Maryland-Virginia area with occasional in-person work at Dance Exchange (7117 Maple Ave, Takoma Park, MD).

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Communications

Position Overview: The Digital Communications Contractor will support the Director of Communications to grow the visibility of Dance Exchange programs, partnerships, artists, and partners through digital content, marketing, and engagement.  

Responsibilities Include:

Not every week will include all of these tasks. Workload and priorities will be managed with Dir. of Communications on an ongoing basis. 

  • Social Media

    • Generating and scheduling content for DX social media (Facebook and Instagram) based on content calendar established by Dir of Communications. Engaging with online audiences and peers in the field in professional and personable ways.

  • External Postings

    • Posting/updating DX class and event information on external online calendars/databases/listservs etc. using existing list and scouting new opportunities

  • Direct emailing

    • Email outreach to specific Dance Exchange audiences identified by Dir. of Communications to share information about upcoming events

  • Web maintenance

    • Basic maintenance and updates to DX website per guidance from Dir. of Communications including calendar updates, blog spotlights, etc.

  • Asset management

    • Gathering and organizing photos, quotes, other media for upcoming marketing/communications needs and/or handling ad hoc requests

  • Meeting/Planning

    • Weekly planning with Dir. of Communications to plan weekly tasks, review/get feedback on work, develop content calendars, etc. 

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

Candidates with skills/qualifications beyond this list–and those who don’t have every skill/qualification on this list are still encouraged to apply. 

  • Experience with social media for an organization, business, or group

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized

  • Strong proof-reading skills  

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with a commitment to generosity and curiosity 

  • Able to manage personal work schedule and task list

  • Comfortable asking questions or requesting help when needed   

  • Experience with navigating and using Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets or willingness to learn

  • Experience with Squarespace or other similar web builders a plus  

  • Graphic design skills a plus
