Exciting Updates from the Community & Creative Hub

Dear Hub Community,

As Dance Exchange prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary season, we wanted to share several exciting and important updates about both the organization and the Community & Creative Hub. Please see below for updates relating to:

  • Dance Exchange Leadership transition

  • Facility Improvements

  • Interim Hub Manager

  • Facilities and Office Manager Position

  • Community & Creative Hub Survey

Beginning July 1, Dance Exchange will enter a new chapter of leadership. Stephen Clapp will step into the role of Executive Director, partnering with Artistic Director Cassie Meador in a shared leadership model rooted in collaboration and partnership. Together, we are committed to building on the strong foundation that has been created while continuing to invest in the people, relationships, and creative practices that make this community so special.

The Community & Creative Hub is central to this vision.

Over the past several months, we know many of you have experienced disruptions as we've navigated staff transitions and changing systems. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued care for this shared creative home. We know there have been times when communication has been slower than we'd like or building needs have taken longer to address. Strengthening communication, improving responsiveness, and caring well for the Hub are priorities as we move into this next chapter.

We're excited to share several improvements that are already underway:

  • HVAC improvements remain a top priority. Dance Exchange has been actively pursuing financing and funding to replace a defunct rooftop HVAC unit. We expect to share an update on the project timeline within the coming month. We recognize that the temporary HVAC system has not always provided the level of comfort our community deserves. Thank you for your patience as we work toward a permanent solution that will improve comfort, reliability, energy efficiency, and the long-term stewardship of our shared home.

  • Safety upgrades in Studio 2 are moving forward to better support our aerialist partners and everyone who uses the space. In response to safety concerns, Dance Exchange is making improvements to better support aerial rigging and enhance the overall safety of the studio.

  • New chairs will be added throughout the Hub to support classes, meetings, and events. At the same time, we will remove older chairs that are no longer stable, replacing them with sturdier seating to create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.

  • A new exterior sign is in production and is expected to be installed this fall, pending county permitting. The new signage reflects our commitment to being an active, accessible community resource—making it easier for neighbors, visitors, artists, and first-time participants to find us.

As we prepare for this next chapter, we're also excited to welcome new leadership for the Community & Creative Hub.

At the end of June, Silvia Roberts retired from her role as Executive Managing Director after more than eleven years of leadership at Dance Exchange. Silvia has cared for this organization—and for the Hub—with remarkable generosity and dedication. We are incredibly grateful that she has agreed to continue serving as Interim Hub Manager through the end of August, helping to ensure a smooth transition as we recruit and welcome our next Facilities and Office Manager.

To help steward the next chapter of the Hub, we are launching our search for a Facilities and Office Manager. This new team member will help care for the Community & Creative Hub while supporting the day-to-day operations of Dance Exchange. If someone in your network comes to mind, we would be grateful if you would share this opportunity with them.

Finally, we want your voice to help shape what comes next.

The Hub exists because of the people who create, teach, rehearse, gather, organize, and build community here. We would be grateful if you would take a few minutes to complete a brief survey about your experience with the Hub and your hopes for its future. We're especially interested in hearing your ideas for improvements to the space, future opportunities for community-building, and the possibility of a Hub gathering in 2027.
