Beth Anne Brooks-Mwano
Partnering Artist, Youth Exchange / Aftercare
Beth (she/they) is a queer, white-bodied creative who has been purposefully moving with others to heal and make embodied connections for 10 years. As an undergrad absorbing Dance Movement Therapy, Beth applied what she learned about embodiment and authentic movement into her teaching beginner ballroom at Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Her joy in connecting people to the love of dance led her to incorporate creative movement into her work as a yoga teacher & guide and Mindful Movement Teacher (including at Takoma Park Community Center). Beth is currently pursuing a second Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling & DMT. Beth loves choreographing in community and has danced and assisted in choreography locally for Nancy Havlik's Performance Group, Uprooted Dance, Site-Specific work at the National Building Museum and Dance Exchange. She has also been lead choreographer for three Nachmo dance pieces performed in D.C. Beth has taught dance, creative movement and song to youth ages 10-16 at a summer sleepaway camp for the non-profit Carpe Diem Arts for the past 6 years and counting. Dance as resistance, transformation and anthem come up often in the work Beth does. As a licensed special education teacher, Beth co-directed and choreographed the movement for 2 of Kennedy Krieger High School's musicals. Beth currently teaches creative dance and Dance for Fun and Fitness residencies at recreation centers and beyond. She is passionate about creating nourishing, accessible dance spaces for intersecting identities to come and be in motion in and with nature and in community.
